Jeep Cherokee Compared to The Jeep Compass

The Jeep brand is well known for its off-road capability, and the Cherokee and the Compass are no exceptions. Both come under the category of small crossovers, which have become increasingly popular in the US over the years. However, it is hard to say which model is the best amongst the Cherokee and the Compass, and readers will simply have to use their judgment as per this write-up.

Difference in Powertrains:

Interestingly, both vehicles are fitted with the same powertrain, which is a 2.4 liter Tigershark® engine., although an additional 3.6 liter V6 is also available with the Cherokee. Although both vehicles have the same power outputs of 180 hp, the torque figures differ between the two. The 2021 Jeep Compass produces 175 lbs.-ft of torque, which is more than the 171 lbs.-ft produced by the 2021 Jeep Cherokee. The Cherokee can transmit its power to its wheels much better than the Compass.

While the engine on the 2021 Jeep Compass is mated to a 6-speed automatic, the Cherokee comes fitted with a 9-speed auto gearbox. Maneuvering the Compass is easier in the city than the Cherokee by virtue of its smaller dimensions.

The towing capacity of the Cherokee is double that of the Compass. While the Compass can tow up t0 2000 pounds, the Cherokee can comfortably pull 4000 pounds of weight. Fuel efficiencies of both vehicles are similar.

Exterior Appearance:

The major difference between the exteriors of the Compass and the Cherokee is in terms of overall size and front design. The grille at the front remains the same on both vehicles, but the front fascia is wider on the Cherokee. Front lights on the Cherokee look more pointed than the Compass, which gets smaller tires than the Cherokee.

A lot of people will find the upright stance of the 2021 Grand Cherokee to appeal to them more than the 2021 Jeep Compass.

Interior Appearance:

There is more internal space in the Cherokee in comparison to the Compass. Therefore, rear passengers will be able to stretch out more in this vehicle as opposed to the Compass. Front seat comfort in terms of legroom and headroom is roughly the same inside both vehicles. Both vehicles are 5-seaters.

Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity will be available on the Cherokee’s infotainment system. Both the vehicles are fitted with Uconnect®4 infotainment systems that get 7-inch touchscreens.

Some of the interior features on the Cherokee are:

  • Three 12V power outlets
  • Start Stop Multiple VSM system (controls fuel consumption)
  • TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)
  • Variable intermittent windshield wipers

Similarly, here are some of the interior features in the 2021 Jeep Compass:

  • Rear seat health ducts
  • 115V auxiliary power outlet
  • Two 12V power outlets
  • Rear seat heat ducts

Safety Features:

Safety technologies in both vehicles are almost the same, barring a few differences. Blind Spot Monitoring is a standard safety feature on both SUV’s while Advanced Brake Assist is part of standard equipment on the 2021 Jeep Cherokee.

Those who are looking for an affordable 4×4 must consider the 2021 Jeep Compass, which is an attractive option. The design of this Compass is also one of the best among SUVs at this price in the market.
